Elliptic Flow from an On-shell Parton Cascade
Differential elliptic flow out to p⊥ ∼ 5 GeV/c is calculated using the MPC elastic parton cascade model for Au+Au at Ecm ∼ 130 A GeV. The results are compared to recent STAR/RHIC elliptic flow data. An elliptic flow pattern comparable to the data seems to require initial parton densities at least twice higher than the predicted by the HIJING model. Elliptic flow is also shown to be sensitive to...
متن کاملNuclear profile dependence of elliptic flow from a parton cascade
The transverse profile dependence of elliptic flow is studied in a parton cascade model. We demonstrate that the impact parameter dependence of elliptic flow depends sensitively on the transverse profile of initial particles, however, if elliptic flow is plotted as a function of the relative multiplicity, the nuclear profile dependence disappears. The insensitivity was found previously in a hyd...
متن کاملDifferential elliptic flow prediction at the LHC from parton transport
Introduction. General physics arguments and calculations for a class of conformal field theories suggest [1, 2] that quantum effects impose a lower bound on transport coefficients. For example, the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio is above a small value η/s ∼ 0.1 (“most perfect fluid” limit). Dissipative effects can therefore never vanish in a finite, expanding system. On the other hand...
متن کاملScaling of elliptic flow, recombination and sequential freeze-out of hadrons in heavy-ion collisions
Quark recombination has been identified as an efficient particle production mechanism for hadrons with intermediate transverse momentum pT in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions [1]. In particular, it explained the constituent-quark number scaling of elliptic flow of mesons and baryons at 2 < pT < 6 GeV: v2(pT)=nqv2(pT/nq), where nq is the number of valence quarks contained in a hadron. Howe...
متن کاملParton cascade and coalescence
Recent data from Au + Au reactions at √ sNN = 130 and 200 GeV from RHIC show striking difference between baryons and mesons in the intermediate transverse momentum region 2 < p⊥ < 5 GeV. First, elliptic flow scales with constituent quark number[ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The flow per constituent quark as a function of transverse momentum per constituent quark, v 2 (pT/n)/n (n = 2 for mesons, 3 for baryon...
